The land of brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives to uphold workers rights and communal harmony was thrilled to witness the inauguration of the 23rd Party Congress of CPI-M here on Wednesday.
The ceremony will be etched on the memory of delegates forever. As a first time host to the Party Congress, Kannur had seen immense crowd participation in the same. In front of the well decorated conference hall, above the red carpet, senior member of the Politburo S Ramachandran Pilllai hoisted the red flag in the presence of Party General Secretary Sitaram Yechrury.
After the band's music and slogans S R P gave a brief message. Delegates and leaders were welcomed by marvellous thematic dance and music performance. Politburo member Manik Sarkar, who presided over the inaugural session, presented Martyrs and condolence resolutions. Politburo member and Chairman of organising committee Pinarayi Vijayan welcomed the delegates and dignitaries to the Party Congress.
In his inaugural speech, Sitaram Yechury said that the foremost task that needs to be focussed upon is to substantially increase the independent strength of CPI-M and its political capacities. He urged to forge the unity of Left and Democratic forces on the basis of an alternate programme to the policies of the Indian ruling class.
CPI General Secretary D Raja addressed the gathering. Messages from General Secretaries of AIFB, RSP and CPI-ML were read by Politburo member M A Baby.
Noted short story writer T Padmanabhan, Ramachandran Kadannappalli MLA, Kannur Bishop Dr. Alex Vadakkumthala, renowned lyricist Kaithapram Damodaran, Actor and director Madhupal, Playback singer Sayanora Philip, Media exponent M V Nikeshkumar etc., were present.
