Manama: Three more Keralites died of coronavirus in the Gulf on Wednesday, pushing the total number of deaths of Keralites abroad to 44.
The three deaths were reported from the United Arab Emirates. The victims were identified as Ashraf (65), Baburaj (55) and Ajith Kumar Gopinathan (42).
Vadakara native Othayoth Ashraf, died at a private hospital in Sharjah on Wednesday morning. Ashraf was a manager in a Hypermarket in Dubai for 20 years. He is survived by his wife Laila and three children, Jumphy, Jamnas and Jasmina. The body will be buried in Sharjah according to the Covid-19 protocol, the ministry of health and prevention said.
Baburaj, hailing from Guruvayoor, died at Dubai Rashid Hospital on early Wednesday. He was under treatment for COVID-19 for the past four days. He was a driver at a rent a car company in Dubai. The funeral will take place on Thursday at Jebel Ali in Dubai.
He had come home six months ago. He is survived by wife Sheena, one son, Adarsh and mother Sulochana.
Pathanamthitta Kulathoor native Ajithkumar Gopinathan (42), died at a hospital in Abudabi on early Wednesday. He was admitted to a hospital in Mussafa on March 22 due to severe fever and later shifted to Abudabi hospital after tested positive for coronavirus.
He was an officer at Universal General Transport Company. He lived in Abu Dhabi with his family. After his death, they were put under observation. He is survived by his wife Rekha and two children, Ananjay and Honey.
The UAE reported six deaths, including the three Keralites, on Wednesday. With this, the death toll rose to 57.
The ministry of Health and Prevention confirmed 483 fresh cases on the same day, pushing the infected cases to 8,238.
The ministry reported 103 new recoveries, taking total recoveries in the country to 1,546.
Meanwhile, six expats, including an Indian, died of coronavirus in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, bringing the country death toll to 114.
The Indian, who succumbed to the virus in Dammam, was identified as Sheikh Ubaidulla from Maharashtra. With this, the number of Indian died from covid in Saudi Arabia rose to 11.
A total of 1,141 new cases registered in the country the same day. The confirmed cases in the country now rose 12,772, the Ministry of Health said during a press briefing.
Ministry announced 172 recoveries, taking the total number of recovery to 1812. There are 82 cases in intensive care.
Elsewhere in Gulf, Kuwait recorded two deaths while Qatar one.
Two Indians died in Kuwait due to coronavirus on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 11.
So far, five Indians in Kuwait were succumbed to the virus.
More than 168 people, including 80 Indians, were confirmed to the virus. With this, the total number of registered cases in the country reached 2,248. Of this, 1,249 were Indians.
Qatar reported one death and 608 new cases on Wednesday. The latest victim was a 55-year-old expat.
The death toll in the country rose to 10. The total numbers of confirmed cases now stand as 7,141.
