Sri Lankan author Shehan Karunatilaka is the Booker Prize winner for 2022. The prestigious award comes in fiction category for his second month “The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida” - a story of murdered war photographer killed in the country’s civil war.
At the ceremony held Monday night in London, Karunatilaka received a trophy from Queen Consort Camilla. It was the English language literary award’s first in-person ceremony since 2019. The prize comes with 50,000 pounds in cash.
Karunatilaka is second Sri Lankan national to win Booker, the first awardee being Michael Ondatje for his book “The English Patient” , which later turned into a blockbuster film.
