NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a nationwide lockdown beginning midnight today lasting 21 days. During this period, people are barred from stepping outside their homes. The move is envisaged as measure to contain the rapid spread of Covid pandemic around the country.
78 new cases have been reported in past 2 days, surging the country total to 500.
“To stop coronavirus, stay at a distance from each other and stay inside your houses,” Modi said. “If we don’t handle these 21 days well, then our country, your family will go backwards by 21 years,” he added.
Incidentally, US President reacted India’s 3-week clampdown saying, US will not resort to the measure.
