Centre Offers Five Proposals To Protesting Farmers

NEW DELHI: The central govt offered five proposals of sorts to the protesting farmers on Wednesday. In writing, the government informed  that while  repealing of agricultural laws would not be possible, changes to the new legislations could be considered.

Offers from govt :
●    A guarantee of Minimum Support Price would be assured in writing.
●    Farmers’ rights over land will be sustained
●    Markets regulated by the government. will be sustained.  Registration procedure will be established for outside operators.
●     In case of dispute, farmers can approach court directly.
●    Tax on agricultural produce  inside regulated markets and outside will be equalized.

Leaders of the farmers’ organisation will examine the proposal and let know their view of it this evening itself.  They had earlier refused a sixth round of talks with the government after all previous attempts failed to reach  consensus.

Backdrop
The farmers' prtoest entered its 14th day today. They  are protesting against Modi government's new laws passed in September, namely : the farmers’ Produce trade and commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act 2020, the Farmers(Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farme Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities(Amendment) Act 2020.
