KP Udayabhanu CPI(M) Pathanamthitta District Secretary

Adoor : The CPI(M)District Sammelanam in Adoor unanimously elected KP Udayabhanu as the new District Secretary. The conclave also elected 34 members to the District Committee. Udayabhanu(64) is being elected third time straight to the position.

Udayabhanu, residing at Puthanvilayil in Adoor’s Enadhimangalam Kurumpakara, is son of Late Parameswaran and Lekhsmi. His entry into politics began with becoming secretary of Karshaka(farm workers) Union in Enadhimangalam village. He was arrested during Emergency for taking part in cycle rally to commemorate Shoornad martyr’s day and was tortured for 3 long days in jail.  Later, he underwent prison term for participating in Micha Bhoomi samaram in 1978. In 1979, at age 25, he won civic elections in his home village of Enadimanalam and become the  panchayat president – the state’s youngest person to have won the post.

Udayabhanu become Area Committee member in 1983 and member of District Committee in 1997. He served as party’s Adoor Area Secretary for one year in 2000 before being elected as District Secretary in 2002.  Udayabhanu served as District Secretary of KSKTU in 2001 later becoming its State Committee member and then elected into the All India Committee.
