Thiruvananthapuram : 108 people today tested positive for COVID-19 today. Districtwise tally for new cases : Kollam - 19; Thrissur - 16; 12 each from Malappuram and Kannur; Palakkad - 11; Kasaragod - 10; Pathanamthitta - 9; 4 each from Kozhikode and Alappuzha; 3 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki and Ernakulam and 2 from Kottayam.
Of the total 108, sixty four people are arrivals from abroad(UAE-28; Kuwait - 14; Tajikistan - 13, Saudi Arabia - ; Nigeria - 3; Oman - 1; Ireland - 1), while 34 came in from outside states (Maharashtra - 15;Delhi - 8; Tamil Nadu - 5; Gujarat - 4; Madhya Pradesh - 1; Andhra Pradesh - 1).
10 infections occurred via direct contact : 7 in Palakkad; 2 Malappuram and 1 Thrissur.
Former football star Hamsa Koya(65) died in Malappuram while being treated for the virus. 5 of his family members, including wife and grandchildren, are also ill and hospitalised with Covid. They had all arrived from Maharashtra on 21 May with visible symptoms of the infection.
Meanwhile, 50 people under treatment were discharged from various hospitals up on full recovery - 30 from Palakkad; 7 from Kozhikode (6 are Air India employees); 6 from Ernakulam(2 Kollam natives); Kannur - 5 and 1 each from Idukki and Kasaragod.
A total of 1029 people are presently under treatment. 762 recoveries have been recorded so far.
Influx into the state comprises : 43,901 people via airport, 1,17,232 by rail, 1621 by sea port and 16,540 by road. Total : 1,79,294 so far.
1,83,097 people in the state remain under observation of whom, 1,81,482 remain in homes or institutions and 1615 in different hospitals. 284 people were admitted newly to the hospitals during the day.
3903 samples have been sent for testing in the past 24 hours, taking the tally for general samples subject to testing so far to 81,517. Of the samples received, 77,517 proved negative for the virus. An additional 20.769 samples were sent for tests as part of sentinel survey involving health workers, guest worker and other high risk categories. 19,597 of these showed no presence of the virus. A total of 1,07,796 samples, repeats included, have been tested in the state so far.
10 new hotspots were declared in the state today : Puthucheri, Kannadi, Vandazhi, Vadakancherry, Pukottucau, Thenkara, Pirayiri, Kolankod in Palakad; Neendakara in Kollam and Ollavann in Kozhikode district. We currently have 138 hotspots around the state.
